Federal Health and Aged Care Minister Greg Hunt (pictured), who played a key role in Australia’s response to covid-19 will retire at the next election following 20 years in politics.
Hunt’s retirement comes nearly two years after the beginning of the covid-19 outbreak, which saw him play a key role in the government’s evolving response.
In May 2021 Hunt was admitted to hospital with a suspected infection following an injection of the AstraZeneca covid vaccine. At the time his office said his condition was not believed to be related to the vaccination.
He was kept overnight for observation and was given “antibiotics and fluid”.
The next Federal election is in May 2022.
Hunt says he wants to spend more time with family.
